Maxwell is Of Counsel to BRS LLP. Maxwell is a writer and an attorney.
He is currently an Associate Scholar at the John Carter Brown Library at Brown University and a Member of the Board of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC).
President Obama nominated Maxwell to be a Member of the Board of Directors of OPIC on May 17, 2011. Maxwell was confirmed by the United States Senate by voice vote on October 21, 2011. OPIC is the U.S. Government’s development finance institution. It mobilizes private capital to help address critical development challenges and, in doing so, advances U.S. foreign policy and national security priorities. Because OPIC works with the U.S. private sector, it helps U.S. businesses gain footholds in emerging markets, catalyzing revenues, jobs and growth opportunities both at home and abroad.
While in law school at the University of Virginia, Maxwell co-founded the Environmental Law and Conservation Clinic and served as President of the Student Legal Forum.
After law school, Maxwell served as an Assistant District Attorney for the City and County of Philadelphia, PA. As an ADA, Maxwell tried more than one hundred cases for crimes ranging from possession with intent to deliver narcotics to gunpoint robberies and shootings. He directed investigations of hundreds of felony prosecutions, handled line-ups, pre-trial motions, including motions to suppress physical evidence, and defendants’ statements. Maxwell is a member of the District of Columbia Bar, and the Bar Association of Washington, D.C. Maxwell authored Danger’s Hour: The Story of the USS Bunker Hill and the Kamikaze Pilot Who Crippled Her, published by Simon & Schuster. Maxwell also edited and compiled the national best-selling book titled Make Gentle the Life of This World: The Vision of Robert F. Kennedy and the Words That Inspired Him.
Maxwell is also an avid sailor and a USCG Licensed Captain.
